Dehantar Manantar

Dehantar Manantar is a docu-theatre that charts the concerns of the third gender in a society that legitimizes and perpetuates patriarchal mores relentlessly. Gender normativity  hegemonically imposes upon us social standards about what is appropriate masculine and feminine behaviour. The production interrogates such attitudes to show how one is typified as either male or female leaving no space for the drag, the transgender and the like. More significantly the production illustrates how performativity  and not biology determines our gender attitudes. Dehantar Manantar uses a cast who themselves belong to the third gender category. The production thus fuses art/life binarism to portray a journey  that beckons all of us to partake in.
